Eye Exam

Our eye exam involves a series of tests to evaluate your vision and check for eye diseases. We use various instruments, shine bright lights at your eyes and request that you look through an array of lenses. Each test during an eye exam evaluates a different aspect of your vision or eye health, and the comprehensive eye exam will consist of:

  • Your visual acuity – A test to measure the clarity of your sight
  • Your prescription for corrective lenses – A refractive evaluation to diagnose refractive errors
  • Your pupils – Response to light and accommodation
  • Your side vision – Normal peripheral vision is important for driving
  • Your eye movement – Eye muscle testing to identify weak eye movements and imbalance between the 2 eyes sometimes resulting in eye strain or double vision
  • Your eye pressure – Glaucoma testing to measure intraocular fluid pressure
  • The front part of your eye – Exam with slit-lamp microscope to evaluate the health of the cornea, lids, iris, lens and surrounding tissues
  • Your retina and optic nerve – Examination of the back of your eye, retina, and underlying blood vessels
